How the ratings work

The formula

Rating = AGD + SCHED. AGD is a team's average goal difference per game, with each game capped at ±7 so running up the score does not help. SCHED is the average rating of the opponents it has played, one entry per game. Because opponents' ratings depend on their opponents, the numbers are solved by repeating the calculation until they settle.

1.00 rating points equals 1 goal. A team rated 2.0 higher is expected to win by about 2 goals. Ratings are set so the average team in each group is 85; that only sets where the scale sits and changes no gap between teams. Displayed numbers are cut off, not rounded, at two decimals.

What counts

Every reported game between teams in the same age group counts. A tie counts as a 0-goal game. A tie decided in overtime or a shootout counts as a 1-goal win. A team playing up an age group is rated in the group where it played and is marked "plays up".

Limits

Ratings are only as good as the scores and how well teams are connected by common opponents. Teams need 5 games to be ranked, and most are still well below the 20 or so games where ratings become reliable. Use them to compare teams and pick fair matchups, not as a final verdict.

Live ratings include every reported game through Oct 18, 2026.

The method follows the publicly documented approach of MyHockeyRankings (goal differential plus strength of schedule). This site is independent and is not affiliated with it or with the Klevr Super League.
